| She began to sell canadian printed albums, which were considerably cheaper than the Japanese and other Asian countries. It started around the time of ULTRA BLUE, and that was how I was able to pick up my first album by her. | |

| And we Americans are left in the dark? I mean, I'm super happy Canadians are able to enjoy her, but this should be done in America, at least for ULTRA BLUE. Really. I don't see the reasoning here. | |

| I think it's due to two main things:
1. The "Utada" persona was created for the American audience, so it would be strange to sell "Utada Hikaru" albums in the market she changed her name (although not much) for.
2. The United States is more resistant to foreign artists (save a few British and American ones). When was the last time you turned on MTV and saw someone singing in a foreign language (besides reggaeton)? When I went to canada for a week (pre-Ultra Blue), I turned on Much Music (their version of MTV) and saw tons of foreign artists singing in multiple languages. It's this overwhelming feeling that a majority of Americans have that "America is the best and English is the best language ever!!!!". Personally, I thinks it's a shame that we don't sell more foreign music.
sorry, kinda went on a rant there....
but yeah, if she's selling albums in Canada, she should sell her stuff here too.

In Canada?? If I could go to Barnes and Noble... and then get Heart Station, I would. I agree with the above post, too. My whole family has that feeling that "America is the best, English is the best" besides Italian. I would like to explore Canada now. Gosh, for a "Melting Pot Country", we're really ethnocentric

| To a certain extent yes we embrace it more in our language arts classes the Usa is described as being a "melting pot" where as we(Canada) are described as "Cultural mosaic" | |

| It's really complicated why they don't sell a lot of niche albums in the US. Not just Japanese albums but English language albums that get released in every other country don't get released in the US, or if they were released with a major label in other countries they'll be released by an independent one in the US, or there'll be a really long delay.
I'm sure if Capitol Records in the US just released Heart Station in New York City, Southern California and Hawaii it would far outsell the Canadian sales but that's not how releases work. They'd have to release it nation wide and I guess they think that it's more trouble than it's worth because specialty stores would carry the imports in the main cities anyway.
I think that's what makes Canada different to the US, but I don't know what makes Canada different to Australia and to a lesser extent the UK and some other western European countries.
